Farewell Bloggers !

Image
As we have learned throughout this course, reflecting is a crucial component to science and growing as a future educator. Reflecting allows us to think back on experiences and grow from them. This forum allowed us to be creative in our reflections and observe how other *colleagues* were feeling as well.  When going through my fellow classmates blog, it was fun to see the creative personal touches everyone put on their blogs. From Tara C’s catchy titles, the organization and layout of Alyssa’s blog, and Jayson's in depth reflections. I was able to gain a better understanding of chapter reflections in Kendra’s blog and found myself missing pieces that she addressed. I hope I was able to provide some insight and knowledge to others as many of you did for me ! (Click to view some of my commentary on colleagues blog post)

Chapter 5 & 6

Chapter 5: Strategies and QuickChecks The atmosphere in which a teacher teaches science is a fundamental component to students overall learning.  Your goal should be for students to feel welcomed in a safe space with the available to let their mind wonder. Creating an engaging classroom that allows students to make their own discoveries is when you will see students grow. From discovery centers to a class pet can provide students with a sense of responsibility and direction. You furthermore, want to promote discussion and build vocabulary. Having scientific terms and analogy around the room are greats ways to promote vocabulary and a way for students to become familiar with different  terminology.  Chapter 6: Assessment of Understanding and Inquiry Assessments occur throughout the year. Assessments refer to the wide variety of methods or tools that educators use to evaluate, measure, and document the academic readiness, learning progress, skill acquisition, or educational nee

Chapter 7-9 Reflection

Chapter 7: Integrating Science and Engineering  Teaching science involves aligning your lessons with next-generation science standards. Science/engineering and language arts can all be incorporated during lessons. You can seek connections with language arts to science lessons. Science/engineering can be incorporated into mathematics. Based on the standards of both math and language arts you can use both in your science lesson and make the lesson even more intriguing.   Science/engineering can also be incorporated into social studies lesson, art and music and health and physical education. Teaching your students that science can be incorporated into all subjects can change their perception of science. Science becomes more interesting when it can be used in many different subjects and lessons.  Chapter 8: Using Technology to Enhance Science Learning Technology is every where today. Rather than viewing technology as a negative, us future teachers should accept and incorpo

Fieldwork Experience

Image
This fieldwork experience was quiet different then what I have been exposed throughout my time at Mount Saint Mary College. If I am being completely honest, I did not find it to be extremely effective for us future teachers. There were more expectations than I feel any of us were prepared for, and we were made aware of the expectations that were not met through feedback at the end of class. As for teaching science, I felt the groups adapted and remained professional throughout each lesson to ultimately conduct effective and education lessons for grades 2-6. Students were provided an array of resources and materials over the course of the program that they will hopefully take with them throughout their academic careers. It was interesting to observe the students who gravitated more towards books / hands on materials compared to those who enjoyed technology and navigating through different activities on the computer. I really was able to see the importance of technology being integrate

Book Trailer

Follow link to see my Book Trailer  Gravity By: Jason Chin I found myself enjoying this assignment more than I ever thought. Initially, I thought it was going to be time consuming and not to my interest. I found this book Gravity, that goes along with my groups lesson objective and was immediately hooked. This isn’t your typical read aloud the way Author and Illustrator Jason Chin made this book is what really intrigued me (as I assume it would young readers) and no I will not tell how it is written or the images, you just have to read it for yourself! Anyway, it was my first time using Powtoon and I think it was the most easy to use perfect resource for a project like this. The user (myself) has the ability to completely customize the video to how you want it to be. I thoroughly enjoyed putting my own twist on this book, and cannot help but laugh every time I watch it and listen to my want to be movie announcer voice HA ! I was not expecting to be as enthusiastic about this ass

Teaching Science with Technology

Video and Chapter Reviews In the Classroom Adapting libraries to the digital areas is not something I support. Although, I do see the positive aspects such as the there may be more variety for students, or they don’t need to carry around books to and from school. It might be because I grew up in the time where we had no other choice but to pick out books from the library, sign them out, and bring them home that I feel turning Digital takes away from the meaning and personal aspect of a hardcopy. I understand the importance of technology, however I do not wish for it to take over all subject matters resources. Video Review pg. 128 I have mixed feelings regarding technology becoming such huge component in education. Technology is inevidable and has ultimately become a part of our everyday lives, especially for the younger generations. As useful as I believe it is, a part of me feels it is not as authentic as being hands on, reading a hardcopy book, or painting with their hands
